"All Too Fast"

Apart of a collection “Soft Places to Land”

For me, “Soft Places to Land” represents expansion. Recently, I made a huge move. I left my amazing little city of Lancaster, PA and moved to pretty much the middle of nowhere Georgia, to finally be with my partner after two years of long distance due to career differences. He had been building a home for us, while I was deepening my roots in my home city. Building an amazing art family that has grown so large and so beautiful. I had a year and a half residency at The Lancaster Art Vault, an amazing working gallery. For the first time I felt like I had a real art family, structure, a village, expansion.

As I prepared to move to Georgia to finally be back with my love, I faced a dichotomy. The leaving of my community, my job, my friends, my family, and the welcoming home that is being with my partner again, in a home that is completely and fully ours. From a group studio at a co-op gallery, to once more, my own place to create alone. The mourning and the celebration. It’s such an odd ache. 

When I announced to my Lancaster Art Vault family that I would be moving, I was thrown into another duality. They were all both sad, and happy. Happy for me, and yet, in the same token, heartbroken to see me leave. Apparently, I had left more of a mark than I expected.

“Soft Places to Land” is about structure from all sides. Being shored up, supported from every point of my journey, to be loved unconditionally. It’s about the expansion, the mourning, the celebration. From a busy art city, to a quiet southern love. The shifting of my very existence. Under it all, is the quiet understanding that I will always create, or find for myself  “Soft Places to Land”.
